I'm scaring my self
by JeffT ini am finalizing the manuscript of my novel (if i don't get a taker soon i'm going to self-publish this summer).
it concerns the inside workings of an apocalyptic cult.
i'm playing a lot with language and the meaning of words, and one of the features (what i'm working on now) is some short explanatory material culled from the publications of my made up religion.. what is frigthening in how easy it is to gin up some words about any given subject and make it say anything i want it to.

Apparently I've out-ed an old friend THE SH**T HIT THE FAN!!
by Terry inabout three or four years ago my former "best friend" who is an active jw started coming by my work to eat lunch with me and chat.. in the course of our conversations we had religious discussions.. i posted on the former jwd about these discussions.
i never mentioned his last name, but, i did use his first name.. i honestly never expected anybody to read those posts because of the curse on apostate websites.
but, that was a bit naive, i suppose.. here is what has happened.. .

My guess is that he is not in denial but rather that he was forced to claim that you typed lies about him in order to defend himself. He's avoiding you because either he suspects that you know he lied about your posts and feels guilty or because the borg re-assimilated him fully and he feels guilty for ever talking with you in the first place.

How Involved Would You Get If You Saw Somebody Being Mistreated?

if they see a domestic abuse, they walk the other way.
if they see signs of neglect or abuse, many just go on with their business.. would you get involved with a situation, even if you might get caught in a crossfire yourself?.

I'm more likely to help today as a fader than when I was a hardcore dub.
The compunction to not help (or even call for help) is a normal psychological phenomenon. Not to say it can't and shouldn't be overcome. Often times it should.
I still feel guilt to this day over what might be considered a minor incident where I didn't help. A 'brother' was beating his child in the bathroom at an assembly. The charge? The kid wouldn't stop crying. Dad would say, "quit crying!" and with every next sob, he's smack him again and repeat the order.
I'm sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I hope that kid grew up ok and left the borg. God forgive me and all the other 'brothers' in that room for not saying a damn thing to that a-hole.

Borg court: 3rd session & verdict
by sd-7 inso...the third and final session was pretty straightforward.
they basically asked some more questions about the first woman, before i got back with the woman who became my wife.
then they asked what seemed like nothing more than a customer survey of "how are we doin'?

Step two commences. Be the best husband and father and man you can be and let whatever happens happen. Don't concern yourself with the opinion of others. If you know you're a good husband/father/man, that's the best you can do. If your wife can see it, she'll appreciate it. If she can't that's, sadly, her problem not yours.
Your new life has begun. Live it.

Yes, they took out well over 100 songs and added something like 35 new ones. (I don't have the exact numbers...a google should clear it up)

Haiti vs Chile earthquake... a MUST read!
by Prov1320 incnn posted a very interesting comparison between the two earthquake (sorry jws, the end is not near):.
palisades, new york (cnn) -- about six weeks ago, a large earthquake devastated haiti and killed over 200,000 people.
saturday, a huge earthquake releasing 500 times more energy, devastated chile and killed hundreds.. so why did the smaller earthquake kill so many more people?

Good point, OTWO. It isn't as if the rank and file are being beaten and arrested in Russia. What the Russians are doing is hitting the borg where it hurts, at the corporate/legal level.

My take on the "commandment" issue is that Jesus was using the lingo the Jews he was preaching to were accustomed to. They actually 'wanted' commandments because their culture was based on the Law. It seems that if Jesus could have convinced them that NO commandments were necessary if they actually had love, he'd have done so. They couldn't comprehend such notions, so he spoke to them in a language they could understand.
